BODPOD - Real Science Real Results

Appointment Preparation

For all appointments and consultations please report to Musashi reception to be directed to Bodyology Exercise Science Studio.

It is extremely important in order to maximise the effectiveness of your appointment that you arrive on time and ready to undertake the appropriate tests. Change-room facilities are available within the Bodyology complex; however please ensure you are changed and ready for your appointment at the scheduled time. It is recommended that you wear tight, form-fitting clothing underneath loose, comfortable clothes to your appointment.

Please be aware that if your appointment includes both BOD POD and Metabolism Analyses, you must not eat for 4 hours before and you must not exercise at all before your appointment.

Ensure that you are in a suitable state of health and are not ill or dehydrated during testing, as these factors may affect results.

BOD POD Body Composition Analysis:

When coming to Bodyology for a BOD POD Analysis it is important, in order to ensure the accuracy of results, that you undertake the following measures:

  • Do not eat for 2 hours before the test

(You may drink small amounts of water to ensure normal hydration)

  • Do not exercise for 2 hours before your appointment
  • Wear appropriate clothing for the test (tight form fitting)
    • Spandex, Lycra or other Speedo type swimsuit
    • Spandex, Lycra or Skins type compression shorts and light weight sports bra (no padding or wires)
  • It is recommended you wear this underneath comfortable loose clothing
  • You will be required to wear a swim cap – Please bring your own if you have one. If not, one will be provided for you
  • Use the restroom if necessary prior to testing
  • It is recommended for women who carry excess water during different parts of their menstrual cycle, that testing during these times be avoided, and that retests occur at similar times to original tests.

Test Process

A BOD POD Gold Standard body composition assessment is extremely simple, comfortable, and takes only about 5 minutes.
The test sequence is as follows:

  1. Basic subject information is entered into the computer.
  2. The BOD POD is calibrated.
  3. The subject’s mass is measured using the integrated digital scale.
  4. The subject’s body volume is measured while sitting inside the BOD POD.
  5. The subject’s Thoracic Lung Volume (TGV) is either measured or a prediction equation is used.
  6. Test results are displayed, which can then be printed, saved, and/or exported.

Metabolism Analysis:

When coming to Bodyology for an Indirect Calorimetry Metabolism Analysis it is important, in order to ensure the accuracy of results, that you undertake the following measures:

  • Do not eat for 4 hours before the test

(You may drink small amounts of water to ensure normal hydration)

  • It is recommended you wear comfortable loose clothing
  • Do not exercise at all before your appointment, or do any activities that may significantly raise your body temperature
  • Do not take stimulants (eg. caffeine / coffee) for at least 4 hours before your appointment
  • Do not undertake test if you are ill

Test Process

A Korr Medical Indirect Calorimetry test takes approximately 12 minutes and requires very little effort from clients.

  • It is important that you reach a resting state during your test (hence avoiding exercise and food digestion)
  • Clients lie back in a recliner chair
  • Either a sterilised medical grade breathing mask or disposable nose clip and mouthpiece are used
  • Relax and breathe normally and evenly, ensuring that a proper seal is maintained with mask or mouthpiece, and that all of your breath is expelled into the tube
  • The idea of this test is to be in a completely relaxed state in order to assess your Resting Metabolic Rate

V02 Max CardioCoach C02:

  • As this test is a maximal effort test til exhaustion it is recommended that exercise is limited in the days leading up to the test to ensure that the client can perform optimally
  • This test should not be performed whilst injured or rehabilitating
  • Simple factors such as localised muscle soreness may affect performance and therefore the results
  • Individual clients will differ with food intake and it is recommended that clients follow the same preparation they would before competition

Test Process

  • Bodyology tests clients on a treadmill using graded intensity protocol
  • Opportunity for a warmup and stretch will be allowed
  • Clients will have a chest strap heart rate monitor connected
  • Clients will wear a mesh head strap and Medical grade face mask connected to the Cardio Coach + C02 Indirect Calorimeter
  • Equipment will be adjusted to accommodate the client
  • After familiarisation and instruction, resting levels will be measured
  • The test proceeds with increasing graded intensity levels until the client reaches exhaustion or can no longer maintain the required level of work
  • Test times will vary, but will be approximately 8-15 minutes duration

Training / Consultation:

Clients are expected to be on time to all appointments to optimise training / consultation opportunities. Come prepared and armed with questions. Clients with training and nutrition diaries, previous test results and goal sheets should bring them to all appointments. Appropriate attire is expected for the activities undertaken. Change-room and showering facilities are available within the Re-creation facility, however clients should be changed and ready at the scheduled appointment time.
